The Oceanside Library is a landmark civic project for Long Island's south shore community — a modern, purpose-built facility that replaced an aging structure and set a new standard for public architecture in Nassau County. With its bold aluminum composite façade, floor-to-ceiling curtain wall glazing, and clean geometric massing, the building demanded exterior details that could hold their own against a sophisticated architectural statement.

TSLC supplied its 1.9" diameter illuminated round handrail in 316 stainless steel to line the building's ADA accessibility ramp at the rear entrance. Running at 2.4W/ft with a 3000K color temperature, the handrail delivers a warm, inviting glow that softens the building's contemporary exterior at night while performing a critical safety function — guiding visitors along the ramp with a continuous line of light at hand height. The choice of 316 stainless steel ensures long-term corrosion resistance appropriate for a coastal Long Island environment where salt air is a genuine durability concern.

What makes this installation particularly effective is its restraint. The illuminated handrail isn't competing for attention — it's doing exactly what great architectural lighting should do: enhancing the experience of the space while remaining quietly in service of the design.
